Children’s Work

We have had a fun filled summer with lots of various activities going on at LinkUp. Over the summer holidays we have had gardening sessions with children helping to plant vegetable seeds for our community garden and learning all about where our food comes from. There are some pictures below showing children planting seeds and some vegetables we have grown this year.

childrens_work_1We also planted hanging baskets with flowers that had been donated to us, we sold these for a small charge and put the funds to the garden project to buy more seeds next year.

We have also visited Log Lands on a fun day den building which was good fun for all involved including the adults! The best part was getting to smash them up at the end!

We also run arts and crafts sessions and during the holidays we made decorative stars for the garden out of painted twigs and raffia. I think they look great and the kids had a fun time making them.

A new Stepping Stone group will be starting up soon. Stepping Stones is an award program by Asdan for 10-12 year olds which requires 20hours work running over a period of weeks. The young people work on units ranging from healthy lifestyle, the environment and enterprise and complete challenges to gain “stepping stones” stickers. Stickers are rewarded when the children have demonstrated skills in communication and other areas. Once the children have completed the award they can use this to progress onto other Asdan accredited awards.

If you would like to sign up to the Stepping Stones group or would like more information please contact Estelle Osborne at Longhill LinkUp Trust on 707680.

Estelle also works with young people offering 1:1 sessions to help deal with anger management and bullying issues offering support and techniques. Contact Estelle for more information.

We have lots of fun activities planned for the next few months in the run up to Christmas including making Christmas decorations and angel outfits for the angel parade which will be arranged for December. Please feel free to come along to sessions which are all free.
